I'm not sure where you want to go with this but I'll give you my thoughts. Our area is becoming increasingly dense with population. People used to have some acreage to live and play on but now we increasingly live in town-homes and apartments. Our children are being raised in congested cities and subdivisions where drug use and gangs are becoming rampant. They have no place to go where they can "burn off their excess energy". IACT gives us a place for our children to climb a tree instead of grabbing a video game. They can ride their "motorbikes" instead of getting "stoned". I know there are some who take this priviledge for granted and push the envelope but the most of them are doing ok. As I've said elsewhere, don't punish the masses for the sins of the few. Let's enforce our current rules and I believe you'll see a big difference.

Mike, I agree.  It 's so great to see kids at the Acres acting like I did when I was young.  I was able to yell "be home when the street lights come on" as I was running out the door and jumping on my bike.  Kids today just don't have that opportunity.  It is such a shame.  But at the Acres they are safe and free to have fun and have some space to be kids.  I agree, some push the limits and are dangerous to themselves and others but most kids I see wave and are very respectful.

I agree with you both that the kids very much enjoy being able to come to the acres and ride their go-karts, motorbikes, etc.  I feel very strongly though that there should be a designated piece of land that they could use to ride this equipment.  Cordon off an acre or so somewhere, give the kids some barrels, hay bales or whatever, let them decide how to they want to make it (figure 8, oval, etc) and let the good times roll!  I think that would keep the traffic down throught the acres (not to mention the dust - LOL!) and save our gravel roads throughout the glens and make it much safer for everyone!

Mike, I strongly agree with you....these kids need to be kids....I have 3 wonderful grandchildren 6, 4 and 2 and when my husband and I bought into the acres we thought that this would be a great place for them to come and just be a kid.....we are teaching our oldest to drive his four wheeler.....where else can you come to just be a kid....even for some of us adults, we come thru that gate and we turn into big kids....inside the gates of IACT is a different world than the hustle and bustle of everyday life...this is where we want our grandchildren to be able to come and grow and make lasting friendships as we have already......I know that security is doing what they can....I've seen them stop these kids....but with everything in life you always have the few bad apples!!!!!

Very well said Fran....

i agree when i was a kid i live it the "country " where i was outside from when i got up in the morning till i went to bed in the woods climbing trees riding bikes just having fun!!!!!! thats what i wnt for my kids and i hope it stays that way. angela and i are buying the kids a little 4wheeler and want the to learn how to ride them carefully and enjoy the outdoors but not destroy it also!

well sorry but for me , this has become a nightmare , I use to enjoy my little camper but for last 2 years it has be come to where I do not want to be there because of the kids having fun ! ALL day all you can hear are motorbikes /cycles racing  and then there is the dirt/dust from the racing , try BBQ with that , PLUS my sore spot ... more each year are racing up& down in the powerfield behind my camp , even with each end of the field posted NO motorize vehicials , they race fast enough so they can JUMP the road to other side. Can you imagine what will happen 1 time when jumping the road some one else comes in a car or bike or cart and not see them jumping that road ?If there was a set aside play/ride/race area for them fine, but when there "fun" stops my fun that I scrap $$ to pay dues with , sorry thats not fair. Oh and yes I have tried asking thenm to leave only to be laughed at .Plus I have almost hit a few because of there racing and NOT stopping at stop signs.Im in the back  not near the front so they race more where no one can see them , & group together in a gang , I have asked Security to help , but have been told nothing they can do .As much as I believe in fun for the kids , I do not want this to become " summer camp" and why do they need motorized anything to have fun and play outside ?

Sorry I know you all do not agree with me , but it so that weekends holidays & summer I cant stand to be there anymore , racing back & forth all day , its like my camper in on 495

well new to form & already made my self not liked !

DIBrown;

It would be nice if the place were a little more 'organized'.  Such that those of us who like some peace and quiet can have their area, and those who want to run their dirt bikes can have their area.  800 acres is a lot of space, and we should be able to accomodate people.  The problem is that it is essentially impossible to retro-fit an organization plan.  When I bought into the place last year, my biggest concern was being away from the party set.  If I want to party, I want to go up to the buildings.  When I am on my lot, I want quiet.  But there was no way for me to figure out where the quiet areas are.  And so I guessed.  So far, since I come to IACT in the 'off season' I have been pleased.

But, I have seen other cases where people were unhappy.

Also, from my youth I recall that dirt bikes are cool, but LOUD dirt bikes are best...  I'm glad I don't have young me as a neighbor...

I concur with you concerning the safety of the situation.  Unfortunately, kids don't grasp the danger, and Darwin awards abound...

Lastly, rants are welcome here, and so I think you'll fit in nicely...  Welcome to funstead.orgSmile

Bill, once again I agree completely.  And DLBrown you have a right to complain.  As a Board Member, I have on more than 1 occasion complained.  I believe the Parents of these kids should discipline these kids instead of condoning their actions.  I have proposed three strike your are out.  once,  shame on you,  twice shame on me,  three times and your bike is out of the Acres for a year.  And if you didn't learn your lesson this year, you only get 1 chance next year.  If I break the law, I have to face the consequences and we should teach our children that .

  I also agree with the notion of giving these kids a roped off area to ride,  but of course the Liability word will jump out there.

i think they  should have more rules with the go carts and 4 wheelers  motor bikes if the rules are broken then iact  should  not allow them to ride anymore bane them from having it  everybody else should not be punish because there following the rules and it be taken away from them or all of iact togather  some people know how to follow rules or get there kids to follow rules  in other  words u dont follow the rules your 4 wheeler motorbike  or go cart is out u cant ride anymore or set the rule ucant ride for the remaining year    my thought on golf carts they should  not be bane iact is a big place thats the way people get around u band them people will use cars to get around then u will have alot of dust kicking up  i enjoy getting out riding my golf cart stoping to talk to people if people miss use the golf cart  same rule should apply as i said above

I agree that if IACT is going to allow the use of go carts, ATV's and the like then there should be a designated place for them to ride where street legal vehicles are not permitted. My brother and I had a 4-wheeler and a dirt bike when we were kids, but were told by our parents that we were only allowed to ride in the field next to our house because when car/truck meets 4-wheeler/dirt bike the car/truck wins every time.

I agree Jess 723 that there should be a designated place for the use of go carts, 4-wheelers and the like...some place in an area that is zoned off for them.  I feel like DIBrown that anymore the acres has become like an 800 acre race track - zooming around, dirt and dust flying and reving those engines up from morning until night gets old.  What about a rule that on Sunday's there will only be cars allowed on the roads.....or bicycles, or skate boards, or scooters, or roller skates, or strollers - think of the sounds of wildlife that people might hear - imagine that! Surprised
