Greetings from Funstead.org! This is the March edition of the Funstead.org newsletter |
HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY IACT!
This year marks a pretty significant milestone for Indian Acres Club of Thornburg! Plans are being made to celebrate this occasion later in the year. Once the camping season officially kicks off keep an eye out in the IACT bulletin and also here on funstead.org for more information.
Challenge to all Glens - The Memorial Site (at Trapp Farm) was vandalized sometime in February. The angel statue was removed from its pedestal and also some of the solar lights were stomped on and broken. Chairperson Lillian Cooper-Wiggins is looking for volunteers to help with the repair and clean up later this month - all that are interested in helping, please let her know. Glen 5 is making a $25.00 donation and is challenging other Glens to meet or beat this amount. Conni' Robinson/Chief in Glen 15 announced they are going to meet the challenge - thanks Glen 15! Some folks have said they will be making monetary donations on their own. This site is very special ♥ to a lot of funsteaders and it would be appreciated if we could all join in to do whatever you can to help. Thank you! ♣ (More info: http://www.funstead.org/trappfarmchallenge)
Upcoming Events:
March 7, 2009** - Neighbors Helping Neighbors - CLARIFICATION!
Please note that at the BOD meeting February 28, it was announced that if you have large limbs and debris to remove from your lot, after you get them to a spot on your lot as close to the road as possible, you CAN go to the office and give your Glen and Lot number and the staff will notify the Maintenance Department to come and remove them (this is especially true for the 'senior' funsteaders). Leaves should be collected and taken directly to Trapp Farm (not the maintenace yard) and there will be a designated drop off location. A large collection bin for the non-household trash and larger items will also be available.
WE DO NEED VOLUNTEERS (sign up sheet in admin office or call 540-582-6314 to be added) with trucks and trailers to help with debris pick up - ALL volunteers meet @ 8 AM in the Board Rm (of the admin bldg. coffee pot will be full!). Virginia Baker will be at the acres and will be glad to take calls at 540-840-9206 to compile a list on a 'first come-first serve' basis. However, if there are not enough volunteers DO NOT expect large items (i.e. refrigerators, gas grills, etc.) to be picked up - unless YOU plan on helping get it loaded and unloaded. Thank you! **Rain Date is 3-21.
March 14th - Informational Meeting
An 'Informational Meeting' for all property owners will be hosted by Board of Directors Chair, Lillian Cooper-Wiggins. Several topics of interest will be covered. Use this as a question and answer opportunity! Additional information was posted in the February bulletin (Smoke Signals).
April 18 & 19, 2009 - Open House
This weekend will be set aside for potential property owners to come and check out the facilities! Should you wish to volunteer to take some 'future funsteader folks' around the acres to view lots or to volunteer other services - you can contact the administration office and touch base with the Property Administrator (540-582-6314).

New at Funstead.org
Rate content and pictures
We have recently added a feature that will allow members that are logged in to rate content and pictures on funstead.org. A special page has been added to the main menu that lists the top rated content. A special album has been added to the gallery menu that contains top rated pictures.
Services section
A while back some funsteaders requested that we implement a feature to add services that might be of interest of IACT members. We have recently revitalized this effort and encourage you to visit the services section (and post any services you offer are know would be of value to IACT members). Please visit the services section at http://www.funstead.org/services
Local area page
Recently some funsteaders mentioned that it would be a good idea to include more information about the local area (i.e. "things to do"). We added a page to include this kind of information and put up a first draft. Comments and suggestions on this page are welcome. Please visit the page at http://www.funstead.org/localarea
New pictures in the gallery
There are hundreds of pictures in the gallery that funsteaders have contributed since funstead.org was put online and more are added every month. Please visit http://www.funstead.org/gallery to browse the gallery and share your own pictures.
Elections
This is where funstead.org keep the latest information about upcoming elections. Would you like to run for the BOD? Please let us know. We will be posting information about the nomination process here and we will also help interested candidates spread their message. See http://www.funstead.org/elections for more details. There is also a forum category for elections as well. This will be a great place to discuss issues and candidates for the upcoming IACT elections and will also give candidates an opportunity to interact with other funsteaders.
Furry friend group
This group advocates for facilities and services that cater to dogs and their owners at the acres. Plans include requesting IACT fund the installation of a dog park (fenced in area - location open for suggestions) where we can unleash our pets to be able to run, play and exercise with their owners and even with other dogs in a safe environment! You can check out the ‘Furry Friends’ group at http://www.funstead.org/furryfriends for more information on this effort as well as some interesting links that have been posted. You can join the funstead.org group or contact Virginia Baker (Glen 5, Lot 291; http://www.funstead.org/contact/virginia) for more information. Virginia's home phone number is 540-582-6944. She will be happy to talk with you, answer any of your questions and take your information if you are interested in participating in this effort!
