"The acres" are divided into 19 glens (1 through 18 with Glen 14 divided into glens 14A and 14B) with approximately 6,000 "funsteads" covering 800 acres. Each funstead is a lot of land with electrical and water hook-ups (and a few with direct sewage hookups) that is individually owned/deeded. No "permanent" residence can be built on this recreational land and no one is allowed to "live" on their lot. However, many funsteaders keep campers on their lots year-round and have added decks, screen porches, sheds, etc. There are many common areas including comfort stations, picnic areas, playgrounds, a club house, recreation center, laundry facilities, 9-hole golf course, basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pools, mini golf course, shooting range, hiking trails, and three lakes. The community is gated and patrolled 24 hours a day, has a paved road providing access to the glens and gravel roads providing access to the funsteads within the glens. All funsteads are accessible by motor vehicle, some have lake access, some of the lake access funsteads have private piers, some funsteads border the Po River, and some funsteads are directly accessible by the paved road. Some funsteads are on level land and others are on hillsides. "The acres" take a long time to explore and offer many recreational opportunities!
The most common method of transportaiton at the acres is a golf cart and you will see many smiling faces driving down the roads on their golf carts and waving hello as they pass. People at the acres come from every walk of life and form a unique community that has evolved over the years. Summertime is very relaxing at the acres and only busy on major holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day). Funsteaders spend their times at their funsteads or enjoying the many facilities and activities offered by the acres. Each lot has electricity and water; however the water is turned off in the winter. There are many comfort stations (some with showers); however some of these are closed in the winter. Although the water and some of the comfort stations are closed in the winter, many funsteaders take advantage of this very quiet time to enjoy the acres.
The acres is run by an elected board of directors and a president. There is a police/security force that patrols the acres, an administrative office, a site control office, and a maintenance crew. The glens are organized individually by elected officers.
The purpose of Funstead.org is to provide an avenue for information sharing, facilitating discussion, and promoting projects within the glens. Our aim is to identify issues that are important to our funsteaders, find solutions, organize our efforts, and communicate more effectively within Indian Acres. Ultimately, this vision will include attracting new funsteaders to IACT. If you are a funsteader, we ask that you register for an account if you have not done so already.
